UPDATE:  01/31/18 3:15 P.M.

The water valve has been repaired.  There is NO boil water advisory in effect.  If your water is cloudy, please run the cold tap.  If your water does not clear within 50 minutes, please contact the Shepherdstown Water Department at 304-876-2394.

 

This is a public service message from the Shepherdstown Water Department.  A water valve leak has been discovered at the intersection of Princess and New Street.  The Public Works Department is currently attempting to repair the valve. Customers in the east end of town beginning with Princess Street and going eastward may experience an interruption in water service. This includes Princess Street, Mill Street, Ray Street, College Street, Washington Street, Mill Street, German Street, High Street,  Ridge Valley Court and Route 230. Once your water service is restored, a boil water advisory will be in effect.  Boil water for three minutes before consuming.  The advisory will be in effect until further notice.  Updates will be provided as they are received and will be posted on our website at www.shepherdstown.us and our Facebook page. Update:  01-14-18 9:20 a.m.

This is a public service announcement from the Shepherdstown Water Department for water customers affected by the East End water main break. The Boil Water Advisory that was implemented due to the water main break has been lifted and is no longer in effect.  Please call the Shepherdstown Water Department at 3 0 4-8 7 6-2 3 9 4 with any questions.  The Shepherdstown Water Department apologizes for any inconvenience and would like to thank you for your patience.

 

Update:  01-12-18  5:49 p.m.

The water leak has been repaired.  For any customers that experienced a loss of water, please continue to boil your water prior to consumption.  Any customers who experience sediment in the water lines (cloudy, muddy water) please run your water from the cold tap until it clears.  The boil water advisory will remain in effect until the Jefferson County Health Department can test the water which can take up to 72 hours.  Please contact the Shepherdstown Water Department at 304-876-2394 with any questions.  Thank you for you patience while this difficult water leak was repaired.

Snow Removal Policy

The Corporation of Shepherdstown would like to remind property owners and renters of its policy regarding snow removal on sidewalks.

Section 11-407 Prohibited accumulation of snow, ice and debris on sidewalks and removal thereof by town at expense of property owners provides that…..

No person shall permit the accumulation of snow or ice upon the sidewalk adjacent to any property owned or occupied by him/her within the town, but shall remove the same within a reasonable time not later than 9:00 a.m.,  and 4:00 p.m.,  each day that snow or ice accumulates thereon.

Effective January 2, 2018, water bills will no longer be accepted at the Jefferson Security Bank Shepherdstown branches.

Current options for paying waters bills are as follows:

1.  Via mail to P.O. Box 248, Shepherdstown, WV, 25443,

2. Hand deliver to Town Hall during normal businesses hours or can be deposited in the drop box after hours

3. Online at www.shepherdstown.us

4. Via phone by calling Town Hall at 304-876-2312 or 304-876-2574.

Historic Landmarks Commission

Public Meeting Notice

December 11, 2017

At its’ regular monthly meeting, the Historic Landmarks Commission (HLC) will accept input on the revision of Historic District Design Guidelines.
The HLC is responsible for preserving Shepherdstown's historic and architectural heritage and establishing standards for any changes to historic structures.  The Commission identifies and protects buildings and other properties that have historic or cultural significance through reviews, expert advice, and ordinance.

 

The HLC received a grant from the West Virginia State Historic Preservation Office to update the design guidelines for making exterior changes to historic properties within the historic district.  The town has contracted with the Mills Group to collect public input and update the guidelines.  The public is invited to a lively session on Thursday, November 16 to share ideas and provide input.

Notice of Public Forum:

Please be advised that the Shepherdstown Recycling Task Force will host a public forum on December 4, at 6:30pm, at the Shepherdstown Town Hall.

The purpose of this public forum will be to gather information from businesses and residents on the possible prohibition of the commercial use of styrofoam, plastic bags and straws.

Attendees who wish to speak will need to sign in before the forum begins and will have three (3) minutes to share their comments.
