The Corporation of Shepherdstown currently has one (1) vacancy on its Planning Commission. Pursuant to Title 9, §9-104 Members, terms of office, vacancies:
"Members of the Commission shall be residents of the Town of Shepherdstown, and must fairly represent different areas of interest, knowledge, and expertise, including, but not limited to, business, industry, labor, government and other relevant disciplines.  At least three-fifths of all of the members must have been residents of the municipality for at least five years prior to nomination or appointment and confirmation."

Snow Removal Policy

The Corporation of Shepherdstown would like to remind property owners and renters of its policy regarding snow removal on sidewalks.

Section 11-407 Prohibited accumulation of snow, ice and debris on sidewalks and removal thereof by town at expense of property owners provides that…..

No person shall permit the accumulation of snow or ice upon the sidewalk adjacent to any property owned or occupied by him/her within the town, but shall remove the same within a reasonable time not later than 9:00 a.m.,  and 4:00 p.m.,  each day that snow or ice accumulates thereon.

Town Hall will be closed on Tuesday, December 24 and Wednesday, December 25, in observance of Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Commercial recycling will be collected on Tuesday, December 24. Commercial trash and residential recycling will be collected on Thursday, December 26.

Town Hall will close at noon on Tuesday, December 31 and will be closed all day on Wednesday, January 1, in observance of New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. Commercial recycling and glass recycling will be collected on Tuesday, December 31. Commercial trash and residential recycling will be collected on Thursday, January 2.

 The Corporation of Shepherdstown is accepting applications for the position of Laborer I. Duties include, but are not limited to, general labor duties, such as garbage collection, mowing, street cleanup, assisting Water and Sanitary Departments as assigned, which could include regular lifting of 30lbs. High school diploma or equivalent is required. CDL license is required. Starting salary will be commensurate with experience. A physical examination and other pre-employment screenings, including a background check, are required. Applications may be picked up at Town Hall between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Monday – Friday. The deadline to apply is November 4, 2019. The Corporation of Shepherdstown is an equal opportunity employer.

This is a public service message from the Town of Shepherdstown. A water main break has been discovered on German Street. As a result, customers in this area may experience an interruption in water service. The Public Works Department is currently working to repair the leak. Updates will be provided on our website at www.shepherdstown.us and on our Facebook page or by calling the Shepherdstown Water Plant at 304-876-2394. We apologize for any inconvenience and want to thank you for your patience while we diligently work to repair the leak.

Update 5:14 p.m. The water main break has been repaired. Water service has been restored. If you experience cloudy water, run your water until it clears. South Princess Street will be closed, for clean up, until further notice.

A water main break has been detected in the area of Princess and German Street. Customers west of Princess Street may have an interruption in service. The break is currently being repaired. The time to repair the break is undetermined. Please check back for updates. For further information, please call the Shepherdstown Water Plant at 304-876-2394.

On Friday, June 28, 2019, the Corporation of Shepherdstown was notified that the Handicap Ramp Installation Project would commence on or around Monday, July 1, 2019. As we celebrate Independence Day, the Mayor would like to remind everyone that, fireworks are prohibited within the city limits of Shepherdstown per Section 6-304 “Unlawful sale, possession or use of fireworks; permit for public display”. Have a safe and festive Independence Day!

Message from Mayor Auxer : The East New Street Infrastructure Project has been successfully completed. The project included replacement of decades of old cast iron water lines and broken sewer lines. Service was restored to a nearby fire hydrant. A concrete culvert over Town Run was constructed to replace the collapsed loose stone structure that existed. Thanks to the neighbors on New Street for their patience and to all who may have been inconvenienced. These infrastructure projects are important to our goal of coming together for the common good.

Monday, July 1 - 11:14 a.m. - Beginning on Tuesday, July 2 at 8:00 a.m. to noon, residents on the 100 block of East New Street will experience a water service interruption. Residents in and around this area may experience cloudy water. Please run your water until it clears. For further information, please contact the Shepherdstown Water Plant at 304-876-2394.

Friday, May 31 - 10:55 a.m. - The water line has been repaired.

Friday, May 31, 8:15 a.m. - Due to the construction on East New Street, a small water service line was hit causing a water service interruption for the following areas:  New Street between King and Princess Streets and Princess Street between German and New Streets.  The Public Works Department is currently working to fix the break and expect to have it repaired by 10:00 a.m. today.
