Message from the Mayor

I am grateful to the Shepherdstown Community and Shepherd University for coming together for the common good.  The Shepherdstown government is making effort to provide up to date information about the Coronavirus 2019.  We all have a responsibility to remain calm and strong as we endeavor to push successfully through this crisis.

Eat well, stay hydrated, exercise and commit to social distancing and handwashing.  Check on your neighbors, support our local businesses and cooperate with local health and law enforcement personnel in their efforts to deal with this health crisis.  Please visit our website to avail yourselves of Shepherdstown’s efforts to assist the Community in coping with the COVID-19 crisis. Please remember, we cannot give ourselves a better past but can give ourselves a better future.

Statement from Mayor Jim Auxer:

This statement is to address the current rumor of the confirmed case of COVID-19 and the possibility of two others in the Shepherdstown Community.  I spoke with Dr. Reidy at 2:55 p.m., Sunday, March 15, 2020, Health Officer of Jefferson County Health Department, who stated the Jefferson County Health Department is unaware of any positive cases of the COVID-19 virus in not only Jefferson County, but in West Virginia.

Dr. Reidy reported that the Jefferson County Health Department will notify the Corporation of Shepherdstown if an active case is confirmed.

The Shepherdstown Community will be provided with information as we receive it.  Please be mindful of the seriousness of this crisis.  Please take care of your neighbors and support the local business community.  We need to come together for the common good.

Update: March 17, 2020 - 11:15 a.m.

The boil water advisory has been lifted.  If your water appears cloudy, please run water until it clears.  The water main break is in the process of being repaired and has been isolated so that is affecting a minimal amount of customers.    Thank you for your patience.

 

Update: March 16, 2020 - 10:45 a.m.

At this time, the water leak has not been repaired.  The boil water advisory remains in effect until further notice.

 

Update:  March 15, 2020 - 4.30 p.m.

The water leak has not been repaired.  The boil water advisory remains in effect until further notice.

 

A water main break has been discovered on North Duke Street. Water customers may experience a loss of water. Crews are working to repair the leak. Once water service is restored, a boil water advisory will be in effect until further notice. Boil water for three minutes before consuming. The Corporation of Shepherdstown will hold its Municipal General Election on Tuesday, June 2, 2020, to fill two-year terms of Mayor, Recorder and five Council Members.  All candidates must file a notarized certificate of announcement.  Filing will begin on Monday, February 24, 2020, and end on Friday, March 6, 2020.  The certificate of announcement can be printed by clicking on the link below or can be picked up at the Shepherdstown Town Hall, 104 North King Streets. Certificates of announcements must be returned to Town Hall by hand delivery or U. S. Postal Service postmarked no later than midnight of the last day of filing. Candidates are subject to the eligibility requirements of a registered voter which are as follows:  must be a U.S. citizen, be a minimum of 18 years of age, be a resident of the municipality, and not be under conviction of a felony or other disqualification.  For more information, contact the Town Clerk, Amy Boyd, at 304-876-2398.

Update: January 28, 2020 9:00 p.m.

The water leak has been repaired. A boil water advisory is in effect until further notice. If you experience cloudy water, run your water until it clears. Please call the Shepherdstown Water Plant at 304-876-2394 with any questions. Thank you for your patience.

Update: January 28, 2020 5:15 p.m.

As a result of the water main break along Rt. 45, water service will be interrupted for all customers. Personnel are working to repair the leak at this time. It is undetermined how long it will take to make the repair. If you lose water service, a boil water advisory will be in effect once service is restored. Please boil water for three minutes before consuming. For further information, please contact the Shepherdstown Water Plant at 304-876-2394.

Update: January 28 - 12:36 p.m.

The water leak has been uncovered and repairs are being done. As stated previously, water customers may experience a loss of water service. If water loss does occur, once service is restored, a boil water advisory will be in effect. Please boil your water before consuming. Customers in the areas of Rt. 45 and Cardinal Drive, Mecklenburg Heights, and Ledge Lowe Estates will be affected. The repair work continues and will last throughout next week. Updates will be provided as received. Water service was not interrupted today.

If water loss does occur, once service is restored, a boil water advisory will be in effect. Please boil your water before consuming.
