Fall Clean-Up Week Information

To the Shepherdstown Community:

At the September 8 Town Council meeting, the Shepherdstown Town Council unanimously adopted the following motion relating to Halloween/Trick or Treating related activities:

"The Town Council does not endorse any Halloween events and discourages any Halloween related activities including town-wide Trick or Treating and BooFest based upon Covid-19 safety concerns. "

This decision applies within the corporate limits of Shepherdstown.

The Shepherdstown Town Council made the decision to discourage and not endorse Halloween activities very thoughtfully.  This decision regarding one of Shepherdstown’s premier events was difficult but health and safety must be our #1 priority.

Everyone, please continue to wear your mask and follow the recommended health guidelines of sanitizing, not touching your face, and maintaining physical distancing as we adhere to these safety rules we are protecting our neighbors, families, parents, friends, workers, and helping ensure our businesses remain open. Also, thanks to all the volunteers, nonprofits, the Town’s dedicated employees, and the Jefferson County’s hardworking Health Department. We are grateful to you all, for serving the Shepherdstown Community that we love.

As a new member of Town Council and the Public Works Committee, I am excited to begin serving Shepherdstown with a focus on recycling efforts and sustainable action. I serve as Chair of the Recycling Committee and look forward to working with the Public Works Committee to increase public awareness of issues related to recycling. It has come to our attention that many non-residents are illegally dumping glass in the Town recycling receptacles. Although we appreciate your efforts to recycle, this illegal dumping increases Town costs and employee efforts to properly dispose of the same. Please help spread the word that the glass recycling receptacles in Town are for residents and single-use dumping only. Glass recycling for County residetns is offered at the Jefferson County Transfer Station, located at 332 Jefferson Orchards Road, in Kearneysville (http://www.jcswa.com/Recycling/page1.html). If this practice continues, the Town will have no choice but to issue citations. I will work with Town entities in an effort to help resolve this and other pressing issues. Absentee Voting Information

As a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, meter parking enforcement was discontinued in March 2020 to accommodate Shepherdstown’s businesses and residents. Meter parking enforcement will resume on August 17, 2020, and citations will be issued for meter violations. Meters will be enforced from 8:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, with free meter parking on weekends and holidays.  Residential parking will be enforced twenty-four hours per day, seven days per week as normal.  The free parking zones on East German St, South Church St, West New St, and South King St will be Open 90 Minute parking. Town Hall will be closed to business operations on Tuesday, July 21, 2020, due to the municipal election.  Town Hall is located at 104 North King Street and is the election polling location (Precinct 33).  Click here for election information.

Early Voting:

July 8 - 18 - Early Voting takes place at the Shepherdstown Town Hall from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and the last two Saturday's before the election (July 11 and 18) from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.   A voter does not have to provide a reason for voting during this time.  The voter does not complete an application for early voting in person.
